Purpose and Principle

Preserving the Breed in North America

Founded in 2013, KlM-GNA is dedicated to preserving the Kleine Münsterländer versatile hunting dog in North America. We are the first official chapter (Landesgruppe) of the German parent club, Verband für Kleine Münsterländer e.V. (KlM-D), outside Germany.

Rigorous Breeding Standards

Our breeding dogs:

  • Are tested in the JGHV system for field, forest, and water performance

  • Must pass breed shows and conform to the FCI standard

  • Are evaluated for structure, movement, temperament, and hip health

Only dogs with top ratings and sound health backgrounds are approved for breeding, ensuring puppies are healthy, capable, and well-suited for hunting and family life.

Global Recognition & Support

KlM-GNA is the only North American breed club recognized by KlM-D, KlM-International, and the JGHV. Members benefit from:

  • Expert guidance from German breed specialists

  • Access to Dogbase for informed breeding decisions

  • International collaboration to protect and promote the breed

Join Us

  • We welcome KlM owners, breeders, and enthusiasts to join KlM-GNA and help preserve the classic Kleine Münsterländer in North America.

Dear Kleine Munsterlander Owner,

I am writing to you on behalf of a new breed club for the Kleine (“Small”) Münsterländer that was established in North America at the end of 2013. Since 2011, an effort has been ongoing to develop a close relationship with the parent breed club in Germany, the Kleine Münsterländer, the Verband für Kleine Münsterländer e.V.. The purpose has been to secure, improve and diversify the breed stock of the Kleine Münsterländer in North America. Unfortunately, previous attempts to establish this relationship failed, so in December 2013, articles of incorporation were filed to establish a new breed club, Kleine Münsterländer – Group North America (KlM-GNA).

KlM-GNA’s mission is all about the dogs—preserving the versatility of the classic Kleine Münsterländer for generations of hunters to come. To accomplish this we intend to follow the same principles and standards that have enabled this wonderful breed to flourish in Germany for decades. Our goal is to provide the North American foot hunter with the best hunting partner and family companion possible. We believe that becoming a chapter (Landesgruppe) of the Verband für Kleine Münsterländer and working closely with the parent club is the best way of achieving this goal.

And now in March 2015, at the KlM Annual Meeting in Fulda, Germany, KlM-GNA was unanimously voted the 17th “Landesgruppe” of the club and first one outside of Germany.

With best regards,

John D Liscovitz
Interim President
