International Münsterländer Tests

KlM‑International began developing internationally comparable performance tests in 2007 to preserve the Kleine Münsterländer as a versatile hunting dog across field, forest, and water.

KlM‑International offers two levels of the International Münsterländer Test:

IMP A – Selective / Elite Level

  • A high‑level breed test designed for dogs with national breeding approval.

  • Focuses on advanced, breeding‑relevant performance across field, forest, and water.

IMP B – Basic Level

  • A test of natural hunting abilities that does not require prior breeding approval.

  • Combines elements of traditional Youth and Fall Breed Tests.

  • Since 2016, a passing IMP B meets breeding requirements in Germany; other member countries may add additional criteria.

IMP Breed Show

  • Confirm that a dog meets the F.C.I. standard for the Kleine Münsterländer

  • Assess traits relevant to soundness, structure, and breed type

  • Support internationally consistent breeding decisions

  • Complement the performance results from IMP A or IMP B

Why the IMP Was Created

The International Münsterländer Tests (IMP) were created to provide a unified, internationally comparable way to evaluate the hunting performance of the Kleine Münsterländer. While the F.C.I. standard defines the breed’s appearance, hunting tests vary widely by country, making comparisons difficult.

Since 2007, KlM‑International has developed test regulations that reflect practical hunting work and breeding‑relevant traits. After trial events in 2010 and 2011, the first official regulations were approved in 2012.

History and Continued Growth of the KLM

KlM‑International recognizes that modern breeding cannot be managed solely within national borders.

The IMP framework provides a shared, international foundation for evaluating the performance qualities essential to the Kleine Münsterländer’s future.

  • A KlM‑International committee collaborated for several years to design tests that reflect practical hunting work and breeding‑relevant traits.

  • Trial events were held in 2010 (Austria) and 2011 (Germany), and the results informed the final regulations.

  • The first official IMP regulations were approved in 2012 and have been refined since.
